Video Game Addiction
Gaming Addiction, also known as Internet Gaming Disorder or Gaming Disorder is a serious condition recognized by health organizations and is increasingly diagnosed. The American Psychiatric Association identifies specific behaviors associated with the condition including withdrawal symptoms, loss of interest in previous hobbies, and deceiving family members and others about the amount of gaming.
The basis of the lawsuit against video game makers is that companies used behavioral psychologists and neuroscientists to purposefully make games as addictive as possible, in order to maximize use and spending. Some of the common tactics include using microtransactions as well as using variable awards and near misses that are common in casino gaming. The allegations are especially troubling because most of the victims of video game addiction are minors.
Lawsuits are being filed to bring awareness to how and why gamers are getting hooked, the consequences of video game addiction and to seek compensation. Stanley Law has a history of standing up to corporations that put profits over people. If you or a loved one has been affected, contact us today.
